Although this is somewhat tedious, I am happy to have a well functioning PC again. I have to rebuild my Norton Identity Safe manually from a paper hard copy that I always maintain. It has been about 24 hours now and Norton 360 Premium is running perfectly so far-updates are current and fully downloaded and installed. I then reinstalled Norton 360 Premium from my Norton account. This tool completely wipes the C drive and then it installs a clean version of Windows 10. After backing up all files and making sure I had the ability to reinstall all other software, I used the Windows 10 Update & Security setting, Recovery, Reset this PC tool on my PC. The only way to avoid or clear all of the resulting glitches is to do a clean install. My current machine was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. So I thought of past problems with having upgraded Windows from previous versions. When I had to reinstall Norton I manually shut Windows Defender down using the Windows Settings as it did cause me problems when Windows 10 was first installed before installing Norton.Īfter trying many different solutions I did not achieve a good result. You can then sign into your Norton Account and download an activated copy of your N360, you can sign into your Account from the link below:Įnsure that you do at least a restart at the end of each stage. It may be worth trying one more time by first using Windows to uninstall N360 then running the Norton Removal Tool which may be downloaded from the link below: How have you been uninstalling and reinstalling Norton is it by just using the Windows Uninstall a Program and leaving it at that or do you use one of the Norton Tools for removing Norton? It should not be trying to download updates with Norton installed.

I put it down to being in the system whilst I was installing Norton.

On one occasion when installing Norton on my windows 8.1 Surface tablet I too received a Windows Defender update and was surprised but it was a one-off.
